During the course of our lifetime we face loss on a regular basis and we experience differing degrees of grief as a response depending on the type of loss. Bereavement is the most easily identified form of loss - when a loved one or even an acquaintance dies a complex set of emotions can arise, ranging from anger to sadness and more besides. But there are many other losses that we encounter, some affecting us more than others especially at different times in our lives. We lose jobs, pets, homes, money, friendships, family relationships, marriages, self-esteem, confidence, physical strength, mobility or our sense of wellbeing, to name but a few things. Loss inevitably creates change and in addition to a sense of loss and bereavement we may experience anxiety about the future, or struggle with the changes that have taken place.
Counselling offers time to explore and express the emotional impact that bereavement and loss creates. It also gives an opportunity to reflect and adjust to the changes that arise, integrating the experience and moving forward with fresh insight, understanding and a positive outlook for the future.
