Although anxiety and depression are different it isn't unusual to experience both, swinging from one to the other. Anxiety and depression are common presenting problems in GP Surgeries. They are sometimes appropriate responses to things that happen in our lives. In this case they are symptoms that are relatively short-lived and we recover our sense of wellbeing without needing medication or professional support. However, if anxiety or depression becomes entrenched this is an indication that more assistance is required.

Therapy is focused first on lifting the effects of anxiety and depression and creating strategies for preventing relapse. Once things improve it becomes possible to explore what triggered the symptoms and discover what may be underlying them, deciding whether any life changes need to be considered or personal development work done.
